Blogging and social networking were made to go together. Sign up for accounts at Facebook, Twitter, Stumbleupon, and LinkedIn. Write Facebook status updates and tweet about your blog posts each time you add a new one. At StumbleUpon and LinkedIn write stories about your posts.

In order for social networking to work effectively for you, you need to keep active with the people who follow you within these sites. Read and comment on their posts and they will do the same for you.

Join relevant groups in the social networking sites you use and contribute to the conversations. This is a great way to generate some traffic to your blogs but also to position yourself as a leader within the industry.

Find some other good quality blogs in your niche and start leaving comments on a regular basis. Don’t spam… your comments should add something to the conversation or provide some helpful information. This will encourage the blog owner want to visit your site, as well as the other visitors to that blog since they are looking for more in depth information regarding your comments. Start creating as many backlinks to your site as possible. These are links from other relevant sites linking back to your blog home page or deep linking to posts within your blog. Backlinking will help move your site up in the search engines ranking, and if you can get onto the first page of a search for your relevant terms, your chances of receiving traffic improves considerably.
